Get at least a Pentium III 800 MHz with 256 MB of RAM and an AGP graphics card - 32 MB or 64 MB

Then install Ubuntu (or Xubuntu if your computer has less than 256 MB of RAM).

It is a free, reliable operating day.

You can explore the "Live CD".

It is easy to install and use. You can dual-boot with another system.

If you have installed, you will have access to thousands of free programs that are created by the open source community. There is excellent support - see the start guide wiki and forum Linux.

Back up your data before making any changes to your computer.
